The Marc de Montalembert Foundation and the Institut national d’histoire de l’art (INHA) joined together to establish the Marc de Montalembert Prize. This award of 8000 euros aims to foster the completion of an individual research dedicated to expand the knowledge of Mediterranean arts and culture. In addition, the selected candidate will be offered the opportunity to stay in residence at the Marc de Montalembert Foundation’s headquarters in Rhodes, Greece.

Applicants should be born in, or have the nationality of one of the countries that surround the Mediterranean Sea.

They must be under 35 years of age on November 30, 2010, and hold an academic degree.

Qualifications and Selection

Applicants will be evaluated according to their curriculum vitae and their research project.

Attention will be given to projects’ originality, interest, feasibility and relevance regarding to the Mediterranean region and to INHA’s research programs. Applications should be submitted in the form of a project proposal, with attached budget, schedule for completion, and a concise description of expected results in view of a possible diffusion.

In addition, applicants should provide a cover letter, and two letters of recommendation signed by persons with the competence to judge the quality of the proposed project.

Proposals may be submitted either in French or in English, but the cover letter has to be written in French. In addition, applicants should have the sufficient level of French proficiency so as to be able to pursue their research in France and to benefit from the scientific support of the INHA.

Projects must be individual and shall not be related to PhD researches, or to the organization of an exhibition or a program of cultural events.

Implement and completion of the project

The implementation of the project, six to nine months long, will start by a one-month stay in Paris, as a visiting scholar at the INHA. It will end by a second travel to Paris, during which research results will be the subject of a public presentation.

The cost of the two stays will be covered by both the Marc de Montalembert Foundation and the INHA. In addition, the selected candidate will benefit from the guidance and support of an INHA scientific advisor.

Finally, the project results will be published and disseminated in a proper way, with INHA’s help.
