Events by the Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency on culture-arts, cultural heritage, urban implementations and urban culture keep on embracing Istanbul residents.


This week in the Agenda of Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture:

Remo Salvadori, Peter Kogler and Danae Stratou Exhibitions

Remo Salvadori, Peter Kogler and Danae Stratou came over to Istanbul within the scope of the project “Lives and Works in Istanbul” which was carried out by Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency’s Visual Arts Directorate for developing art infrastructure and providing artists with better opportunities to produce. Now productions of Remo Salvadori, Peter Kogler and Danae Stratou meet with Istanbul residents.



"Continuous, Infinite, Present" by Remo Salvadori, "Untitled: Istanbul Carpet" by Peter Kogler and "Vital Space: Istanbul" by Danae Stratou can be watched at Tophane-i Amire Building from 22 October to 11 November.


"Hatt; A line of Civilization" Documentary

Realized by Birleşik Görsel Medya within the scope of Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency events, the documentary "Hatt; A line of Civilization" has been completed after nearly one year of work.


Developed by using calligraphy and scribing techniques and rather used for decorative purposes, the “art of Hatt” - previously referred as “hüsnühat” one of the oldest and most traditional visual arts- is now registered on the most comprehensive documentary realized so far.


Upon the gala to be held at TIM Show Center on October 22, the documentary will be broadcasted on TV stations in early months of 2011.


"Soul Traces" Documentary

Realized by contributions from Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency, the documentary film ‘Soul Traces’ -in which photographer Ebru Bilun tells about the Galata Mevlevi Lodge’s Museum- will be screened at Pera Museum’s Auditorium on Wednesday, 20 Oct. at 19:00 and on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 14:00.


Telling about the Galata Mevlevi lodge with its permeable stand between life and death, its Sheikh Galip who gave his name to the street it is on; and its cats that are remnant of Fasih Dede; the film waits for the audience.


The 1st International Yorgo Bacanos Ud (Oud) Festival

Planned to become a tradition, Yorgo Bacanos Istanbul International Ud Festival, bearing Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency’s Classic Turkish Music Directorate’s signature, will meet the music lovers of Istanbul on 25-31 October in Sepetçiler Mansion.


The festival program is full of workshops, seminars, concerts and recitals. The festival will add a different color to Istanbul for a week. World's leading udists will deliver performances, individually or in groups, and they will have a chance to monitor each other's music from close range as well as to make music together. In addition, the written and visual recordings of the festival process will be a significant gain for young and student generation of the 'ud' instrument.


All events of the festival are free of charge.


FISA 4th World Rowing Coastal Championship 2010

World Rowing Championships organized by International Federation of Rowing Associations (FISA) every year will be held in Turkey for the first time in 2010 within the maritime projects supported by Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency; and more than 500 athletes in will participate in the championship which will be held on 22-24 October 2010 in Caddebostan.

More than 500 athletes in 40 different teams from 18 different countries will compete in four different categories.
