Of all the senses, sight is generally our main avenue of approach to the landscape, yet it cannot be denied that hearing, smell, taste and touch can also play a crucial role.

Accordingly, the Landscape Observatory of Catalonia has created a thematic digital dossier of soundscapes. Published in Catalan, Spanish, French and English, the dossier seeks to provide access to soundscape heritage, which is often little understood and valued.

The dossier lists, classifies and sorts the main information on sound maps and soundscape files and projects in Catalonia, the rest of Spain and the world as available on the internet – the intention being to make it into a place of reference on the soundscape topic for specialists and the public at large.

The Soundscapes dossier will grow and be updated periodically. As such it is the fourth to be published at the Landscape Observatory's website, the first three being dedicated to dry stone landscapes, outstanding heritage trees and gardens.
