Euromed Heritage 4, a programme of the European Union strongly involved in the preservation and valorisation of handicraft as a mean of socio-economic development among local communities in the Mediterranean region
Since 1998, the EU financed-programme Euromed Heritage contributes to the safeguard and valorisation of Mediterranean cultural heritage while promoting socio-economic development among local communities in the region. Within the various phases of the programme, some projects have focused on the development of handicrafts as part of community development and the development of women status, as well as tourism development.
This intense activity includes the revitalisation and development of local arts and crafts as well as their marketing; training of craftspeople in best techniques of production and in marketing products to tourists and for export; training in management and marketing as well as access to micro-financing; creation of a label of quality and authenticity; inventory of local know-how and creation of network of artisans and artists; organisation of travelling exhibition contributing to the promotion of the commercialisation of the arts and crafts; publication of guides on the different artistic crafts...
