The journal Développement Durable et Territoires has launched a call for contributions on the theme of defining a new social order for culture and sustainable development. The deadline for submitting proposals and summaries is May 31, 2010.

According to the website, submitted contributions should address “defining culture, identifying cultural stakeholders, and integrating culture into an overall sustainable development strategy. Which culture(s) are we talking about? Who are the people entrusted with culture? What steps must be taken to integrate culture into sustainable development policy? What are the implications of including cultural indicators in sustainable development indicators? What are the consequences of the ideological instrumentalization of culture on public action and on individual attitudes and behavior?”

Développement Durable et Territoires describes itself as “a scientific journal that takes an interdisciplinary approach to sustainable development at the territorial level. By taking a broader view of the concept of “the environment,” the magazine aims to contribute to reflections on the forms and outcomes of developmental logic in modern society.”

The journal is produced by Réseau Développement Durable et Territoires Fragiles, a network of some twenty researchers in the humanities and social sciences at universities in France’s Nord-Pas-de-Calais region.
