İPEK DUBEN:
A Selection 1994-2009
Exhibition Designer: Başak Şenova
Duben who had her first solo show in 1979 in Istanbul, has concentrated on issues of identity, gender, migration, racisim and prejudice in her artist's book projects and installations which she began while she was living in New York during 1991-2001. In her Şerife series (1982) Duben was a pioneer in addressing the existential position of women in Turkey from a feminist perspective. In her artist's books she focused on self-identity with references to gender and faith in Manuscript 1994, domestic violence and honor killings in LoveGame and LoveBook (2001), racisim and prejudice in What is a Turk?(2003-04), and the drama of forced migration across borders during the twentieth century which she documents poetically in Farewell My Homeland (2004 - 05). İpek Duben:A Selection 1994-2009 presents the journey of Duben's sharp critical perception of individual, social and universal issues
