Culture makers of the world will gather in Istanbul: “Creative Industries and Cities in the 21st Century” symposium

“Creative Industries and Cities in the 21st Century” symposium will be realized in Istanbul on 11-12 November 2010 as an event by Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency’s Urban Culture Directorate in cooperation with Yıldız Technical University – Faculty of Art and Design.
Relevant protocol was signed by Yılmaz Kurt the Secretary General of the Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency and Prof. Ruhi Ayangil the Dean of the Faculty of Art and Design of Yildiz Technical University with Olcay Akgül the President of YTU Foundation along with Ismail Ertürk, a cultural economy specialist from Manchester University, UNCTAD and Charles Landry the founder of the creative cities concept.
Main purpose of the project is to initiate efforts for establishing a creative industries and cities institute in Turkey in a joint effort with UNCTAD as a permanent outcome of Istanbul 2010.
To this end, experts and academics on creative industries and cities from the prominent institutions of the world as well as local administrations are to come together in Istanbul for sharing their experiences and views with figures from the business community, local administrations and culture-art circles in Turkey.
During the symposium to be organized in due course it will be discussed how the prominent cities in the world use their cultural policies for developing cultural and creative industries. It will be further elaborated how Istanbul could make use of the opportunity of being a European Capital of Culture for adopting this new urban development strategy.
The symposium will take place at the Yildiz Technical University Auditorium
