Historical Tall Ships Regatta
Istanbul got into the route of Historical Seas Tall Ships Regatta with joint initiative by Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency and Chamber of Maritime Commerce.
Istanbul the European Capital of Culture in 2010 is hosting the Historical Seas Tall Ships Regatta for the first time. Realized by joint initiative of Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency and Chamber of Maritime Commerce and cooperation with Greece and Bulgaria, the Historical Seas Tall Ships Regatta is ending on May 27. 23 historical sail ships from 16 countries will anchor at the Karaköy port for welcoming the visitors along four days between 10:00 and 18:00.
MünirIstanbul Concert
Starting from the idea that “Istanbul cannot be imagined without classical Turkish music and Münir Nurettin Selçuk!” the Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency Clasical Turkish Music Directorate invites Istanbul residents and Münir Nurettin fans to the “Münirİstanbul” concert.
The concert is realized by Timur Selçuk on Sunday, May 30 at Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall will present a modern interpretation of Münir Nurettin compositions. The event is free of charge.
Spring in Haydarpaşa Train Station
Doorway to Istanbul, the Haydarpaşa Train Station becomes a big culture-art center on 3-6 June for a project by Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency Theatre and Performing Arts Directorate: ”Spring in Haydarpaşa Train Station” as a tribute to Nazim Hikmet for the 47th nniversary of his demise.
Inspired many novels and movies which featured intensive immigration to Istanbul, the Haydarpaşa Train Station will become the most intensive culture and art center in Istanbul on 3-6 June for a series of events with the theme “Nazim Hikmet” and “immigration” from 11:00 AM to midnight. Istanbul residents will be able to follow theatre plays, dance performances, film screenings, concerts and poetry recitals in due course all free of charge.
Open Door Festival
The Open Door Festival is realized between 22 and 30 May under the organization of Arkitera Architecture Center within the context of Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture events and by the support of BUILdIST Construction Materials Fair.
During the festival, historically or architecturally important buildings or places –which are not open to public in normal conditions, will open their doors to general public. The program also includes places that are normally open to public but generally neglected.
