Taking the cultural policies issue over entire Europe –as this issue is one of the prominent subjects of the EU member countries agenda- under the organization of Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency’s International Relations Directorate, the “European Union Symposia” elaborated the topic “What is the European Culture?” in 2008 and “Cultural Policies in Europe and Turkey” in 2009.
Prominent theoreticians, managers and experts of cultural and educational institutions of Europe and Turkey will be elaborating this year the “cultural governance” concept under the title "New Approaches to Cultural Governance" as this subject is an indispensable requirement for realization the concepts “creative industries” and “creative cities”.
Starting on Wednesday, November 24 the "New Approaches to Cultural Governance" Symposium will be realized at the Haliç Conference Hall of Kadir Has University for three days between 10:30 – 17:30 . Sessions are open to all those who would like to attend at the sessions.
The symposium will be joined by specialists from Turkey, France, UK, Sweden, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Malta, Romania, Denmark, Finland and Slovenia who will present recommendations that will shape the cultural world of future; and re-assess the present cultural policies in Turkey and Europe in accordance with new conditions of the globalizing world.
The most important target of the “European Union Symposia” –an activity by Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency’s International Relations Directorate- is to provide a basis for cultural policies of Istanbul during the process of European Capital of Culture and to contribute to the accession process of Turkey to the EU.
