Supported by Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency, the "My Longing Istanbul: Immigration and Longing Stories by Greeks of Istanbul" of the Lausanne Immigration Exchange Foundation will be opened at the Sismanoglio Megaro building -Cultural Center of the Consulate General of Greece on Friday, October 8 at 18:00. Visiting hours are 12:00 to 20:00 everyday.
The exhibition features visual and written materials gathered upon interviews with 47 Greeks of Istanbul who now live in Athens and Thessalonica. Supported by Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency, the "My Longing Istanbul: Immigration and Longing Stories by Greeks of Istanbul" of the Lausanne Immigration Exchange Foundation will be opened at the Sismanoglio Megaro building -Cultural Center of the Consulate General of Greece on Friday, October 8 at 18:00. The exhibition can be visited on 9-19 October 2010.
The exhibition is constituted as to display boards –each allocated for one interviewee- bearing old and new photographs along with excerpts from the interviews. Locations in visuals were photographed by the project team in accordance with information provided from the interviewees. Display boards are lined up according to immigration dates of the interviewees.
"My Longing Istanbul: Immigration and Longing Stories by Greeks of Istanbul" the Book
During 47 interviews realized by the Lausanne Immigration Exchange Foundation project team within the scope of the project, the interviewees were asked about their longing of Istanbul as well as their dates and reasons of immigration. Their family structures and ascendants were also asked. Acquired data were evaluated in a research report which took place in a comprehensive book titled "My Longing Istanbul: Immigration and Longing Stories by Greeks of Istanbul" which is prepared in three languages –Turkish/Greek/English- and will be distributed to guests within the frame of the project and exhibition. The book also includes summaries of the interviews both in Turkish and Greek.
“My Longing Istanbul” Documentary
Another important product of the project is the documentary My Longing Istanbul” directed by Tahsin İşbilen. This documentary is based on interview records and collected material thereof. This documentary will almost make it tangible of the longing of Greeks of Istanbul who say “Istanbul is my land, I miss every part of it”. The documentary “My Longing Istanbul” will be screened every hour during the exhibition days.
After the exhibition that will take place at Sismanoglio Megaro in Istanbul, the second of exhibition “My Longing Istanbul” will be on display in Athens on 23 October. The third one will be opened in Thessalonica on 6 November.
