Source http://www.lesrencontres.euOn Monday, 25th we will deal with the European dimension of local and regional cultural policies: from conception to implementation. On Tuesday, 26th we will examine the theme of architecture and urbanism in a territory, in the framework of the 12th Biennale of Architecture of Venice which is entitled « People meet in architecture ».
Workshops linked with the second topic in the site of the International Architecture Exhibition will be organised. The Japanese architect Ms Kazuyo Sejima, who has recently been awarded the prestigious Pritzker Architecture Prize 2010 (together with Ryue Nishizawa) is the director of this exhibition which regards the concept of architecture as an instrument to promote a more qualified standard relation level between individuals, activities and space, that is to consider it capable of creating a res publica, a dimension where individuals can recognise one another and improve their reciprocal relationships in creatively and imaginatively strengthened spaces.
Furthermore, participants will be guided by European experts, who are already experienced trainers, such as Dr. Lluís Bonet (University of Barcelona), Jean-Louis Bonnin (cultural adviser for the Mayor of Nantes) and Dr. Emmanuel Négrier (University of Montpellier) as well as the architects Pierre Hebbelinck (Liège) and Uli Seher (Cologne) among others, for the second day. We are waiting for some other confirmations of prestigious speakers.
As it was done in 2009, the training seminar will take place on the Island of San Servolo, in premises, which were specifically conceived for hosting meetings and seminars. Moreover, the participants will sleep on the island, an advantageous circumstance, which contributes to their concentration and to the efficiency in the use of time, as we observed last year. Having chosen the island of San Servolo in Venice as a privileged venue for our training seminars, we wish to make the Rencontre de Venise a recurring training meeting point.
