Source www.rekult.orgInspired by the wanderings of the Roma people throughout Europe “The Zine Caravan” will travel between different European cities to introduce zine culture to new communities via exhibitions, workshops and a Zine Exchange.
Between December 2009 and January 2011 the Zine Caravan will run five ‘zine fiestas’ in the cities of Amsterdam, Rome, Porto, Skopje and Istanbul. Each fiesta consists of a zine exhibition and vernissage (showcasing the work of local artists) followed by a free half-day zine-making workshop in collaboration with local artists. The Zine Exchange will also be open throughout the fiesta for the purchase and exchange of zines.

What is a zine?
A zine is a self-published book, or mini (maga)zine, usually A5 or A6 in size and reproduced via a photocopier. Zinemaking has become an international subcultural movement that focuses on personal expression via independent media. Zines cover an incredibly diverse range of topics including: fiction, politics, art, design, diaries, social themes or a personal obsession. They can come in almost any format: comics, collage, handwritten, computer designed, photography, drawings, even as cassettes, CDs, DVDs or in Braille!
