Inspiration Inspiring

When was to write an essay to hand out for my master class last year I realised that what inspires me most is the inspiration as a subject itself.I’m aware that it will be consist of questions more than answers but I’ll try to offer possible suggestions refering the speeches I have made with artists in the gallery and researches I made through the art history. Here I begin with the first question…

Is it a coincidence that inspiration both means insight and the air we breath in?What’s the source of inspiration? Is it something divine or is it a phsylogical process which is an act of an uncharted part of the brain?Do all people have it but can’t express or is it a gift which is granted only a certain amount of individuals? Most of the artists say that it’s the source where they inspire from is a kind of subconciousness which they travel through and inspirate(!)the air-aura and come back in certain conditions.

When I search through the art history through to our time what makes me curious most is why a work becomes a masterpiece and the other can’t;in other words why an artist becomes an avant garde and how come the other is kept away from the magic touch of inspiration ? Are the muses touching the magic wand some of the artists and passing the others through?Or are there ceratin conditions which seduce this little fairies? Is it really a supernatural influence originated from divine sources or originated from mysterious curves of the brain? Why is it revealed by getting in to a certain mood sometimes acquired by alcholol or drugs?

Investigating the history it seems that there are certain conditions which are suitible for producing art.A studio is the basic of all; not for keeping material or the canvases but to isolate the artist from any external impact which will effect the five –or maybe six or more!-senses.Through all the history artists have been chasing the muses in the simplicity of the country side away from any chaotic environment .Apparently -as it is always stated in mytology- muses like to hide to the dimmness of the forests or in the song of the falls instead of crowded ,polluted cities…If we are to make an inferance we come up with the fact that the inspiration must be coming from an external source other than human psyche or at least it must be a reflection of it which comes around beyond the individuals control. It appears that they may inspire with a single glance, word, color, breeze as much as explosive sentiments like love, awe, violance, terror. In every way the artist is a kind of antenna, recipient, conductive between this and someother reality.Seemingly some of the artists can not stand the intensity of it and they end up living in the borders of madness which we can refer to the common opinion about artists being bizzare for they are carless about their self image and seem to be living another reality beyond their existence. This reality beyond their existence -4. or 5. or etc. dimension- provide them an extra ordinary energy,enigma,aura-or whatever it may called-cause people to be irresistibly attracted to this unknown, unexplored formation of their self being. This would be an explanation for the reason of their multy active social and private lives and how they are being adored and loved obsesively by their sexual partners.

In fact this is a kind of enigma which causes people spend a lot of money to buy their art even if they can not identify anything they understand on them for to experience a piece of this reality or to own a piece of artist himself. This is an interesting paradigma that how much the artist tries to isolate himself that much the people want a piece of him!

If the inspiration comes from one origin why it is expressed variously, especially with uneducated hands that are not limited with the strict rules of academic procedures?
My observations show that a fresh graduates need time to free themselves from the academic boundaries to discover their own identity and determine their original characteristics on their art.But the naive ones for not having these boundaries are flexible to fullfill what muses want and achieve uniqueness. It seems that freeing one’s mind is a must to succeed in art.The artists living on the borders of absurdness seemeingly not having a trouble of being free while more timid ones mostly need some catalysts-like alcholol or drugs-to hear the inner-or outer!-voice of the muses,to feel, and free their minds.Once the mind is freed then the inspiration flows through the hands of the painter, sculpter, poet, auther, musician etc. and brings the work to life. How the out come of this source reflects on to material is designated by the habits and the manner of holding a tool is being shaped during the child hood.

If there is one origin is everyone be able to reach it?Why some see through two dimensions-painter-and some three-sculpters-?Or some hear? Why some artists are able to produce multydisciplinarily some are not?

What I couldn’t find a possible answer is if the origin is one why can’t all people reach it?I assume that even to find an estimated answer would take a planty of time and a serious research which i can not spare time at the moment. As I mentioned at the beginning this essay is consist of questions and possible answers which I would like to discuss in a more detailed article through coming days.
